Southern Baptists Vote to Overturn Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) recently made headlines with a decisive vote in favor of a resolution urging the repeal of the landmark 2015 Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. The resolution, formally titled “On Restoring Moral Clarity through God’s Design for Gender, Marriage, and the Family,” explicitly calls for the overturning of Obergefell v. Hodges and the implementation of laws defining marriage exclusively as a union between one man and one woman.

The overwhelming support for the resolution was visually striking, as shown in a video capturing a sea of green voting slips – a clear indication of the convention’s stance. The lack of any visible opposing votes further underscored the strength of feeling on this issue within the SBC.

This resolution is the latest development in the ongoing debate surrounding same-sex marriage and its legal standing in the United States, highlighting the continued tension between religious beliefs and evolving societal norms. The SBC’s strong stance on this issue is likely to reignite conversations about religious freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, and the role of faith in shaping public policy.
