Brisbane Fights Traffic Gridlock with a $15 Million AI Upgrade

Brisbane is tackling its growing traffic woes with a significant investment in cutting-edge technology. The city council has announced a $15 million (US$9.7 million) project to install a state-of-the-art AI-powered traffic monitoring system at key intersections. This ambitious initiative will replace outdated infrastructure, much of which dates back to the 1980s and 90s and relies on older road-embedded sensors.

Brisbane Mayor Adrian Schrinner highlighted the safety benefits of this modernization effort. In a statement, he emphasized that the real-time intelligence provided by the AI system will enhance traffic management and contribute to safer commutes for all residents. He explained, “As one of Australia’s fastest-growing capital cities, we need to invest in better technology to keep Brisbane moving. Smart AI technology has proven successful in improving traffic flow globally, and we’re confident this will be a game-changer for our city.”

This significant investment underscores Brisbane’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve the quality of life for its citizens and address the challenges posed by rapid population growth and increased traffic congestion.
