Australian Flag Returns to School Flyer After Pride Flag Controversy

A recent controversy surrounding a school flyer in the Mornington Peninsula Shire has led to the reinstatement of the Australian flag. The original flyer, advertising kindergarten registrations for 2026, featured the Pride flag alongside the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, replacing the Australian flag.

Councillor Bruce Ranken, representing the Moorooduc Ward, initiated a motion to address the issue. While expressing support for the inclusion of all flags, Councillor Ranken emphasized the importance of representing all Australians equally. He stated to The Epoch Times, “Really, at the end of the day, we are all Australian. It doesn’t matter where you come from.”

The motion, presented as a matter of urgent business during a council meeting, passed with a decisive 9-1 vote. Councillor Max Patton cast the sole dissenting vote, citing concerns about potential “unintended consequences.” The decision has effectively restored the Australian flag to its place on the school’s promotional materials.
