US Issues Trade Ultimatum: ‘Best Offers’ Due by June 4th

The clock is ticking for US trade partners. According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the Office of the US Trade Representative is sending out what she termed “friendly reminders” about an impending deadline in ongoing trade negotiations.

Leavitt’s confirmation at a June 3rd press briefing corroborates a Reuters report detailing the pressure being applied. The report, published Tuesday morning, reveals that the US is demanding “best offers” from participating countries by June 4th. The goal, according to the letters, is to significantly accelerate the pace of these negotiations.

A draft of the letter obtained by Reuters indicates the US is seeking concrete plans to address non-tariff trade barriers. Furthermore, the letters explicitly request commitments from foreign nations regarding increased purchases of American industrial and agricultural products.

This move signals a heightened sense of urgency from the US administration in securing favorable trade agreements. The deadline looms large, raising the stakes for international trade relations in the coming days.
