Perth E-Scooter Rentals Halted After Tragic CBD Death

A tragic accident in Perth’s CBD has led to the immediate suspension of all e-scooter rental services within the city. A 51-year-old man lost his life on May 31st after being struck by a rented e-scooter at the busy intersection of Murray and King Streets.

This marks a devastating first for Western Australia, representing the state’s initial recorded pedestrian fatality involving a rented e-scooter. The victim, who had been enjoying a meal in the city, was reportedly hit by a scooter allegedly operated by a 25-year-old UK tourist.

Sadly, the man succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Following the incident, the e-scooter rider has been charged with dangerous driving causing death while under the influence of alcohol. The City of Perth acted swiftly, halting all e-scooter hire operations in the wake of this heartbreaking event.
