Edmonton Teen Arrested: RCMP Crack Down on Violent Online Network Targeting Children

In a significant development in the fight against online child exploitation and terrorism, the RCMP has arrested a 15-year-old Edmonton youth. The arrest, made on May 12th and announced on May 29th, stems from the youth’s alleged association with COM/764, a violent transnational online network.

The RCMP’s National Security Enforcement Team, part of the Federal Policing Northwest Region, apprehended the teen. Authorities are concerned about the youth’s potential to commit terrorism-related offences. Instead of traditional charges, the RCMP is pursuing a terrorism peace bond, a measure under the Criminal Code designed to address potential future threats.

According to police, the COM/764 network is a dangerous online ecosystem preying on vulnerable youth. Members of this network allegedly lure children into committing various acts, including sexual acts, self-harm, and animal cruelty. The arrest highlights the growing concern regarding online predators and the transnational nature of these criminal networks.

The youth remains in custody pending further proceedings. This case underscores the crucial role law enforcement plays in protecting children from online threats and disrupting dangerous transnational criminal organizations.
