A Massachusetts high school junior, Marcelo Gomes da Silva, has been released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after an immigration judge granted him bond. The 18-year-old Milford Public High School student was arrested by ICE agents on May 31st.

Judge Jenny Beverly set the bond at $2,000, securing Gomes da Silva’s release on Thursday. Court documents reveal that he initially entered the United States on a student visa in 2012, which has since expired. His legal team has confirmed their intent to pursue asylum in the U.S. on his behalf.

Following his release, Gomes da Silva shared his feelings with reporters, stating, “I’ll always remember this place. I’ll always remember how it was.” His experience highlights the ongoing debate surrounding immigration policies and their impact on young people within the United States.
