LA Unrest: Marines Replace National Guard, Protecting Federal Assets

Los Angeles is seeing a shift in its security forces. On June 13th, 200 Marines deployed to the city, taking over from the California National Guard in the protection of federal personnel and property. This action comes amidst civil unrest in the area.

The deployment follows a controversial decision by President Donald Trump to federalize the National Guard. A total of 700 Marines previously joined the National Guard’s efforts. The Department of Defense has been clear in its statement that the military’s role is solely protective; there have been no arrests made by either Marines or soldiers.

“Right now, as of today, we have had no soldier or Marine detain anyone,” stated Army Maj. Gen. Scott Sherman, leader of Task Force 51, which supports federal law enforcement in Los Angeles. This quote comes directly from the Department of Defense website.

This situation is rapidly evolving, and we will continue to provide updates as they become available.
