Musk Backtracks: SpaceX Dragon Remains in Service After Twitter Spat

A dramatic back-and-forth between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump has ended with a reversal from the SpaceX CEO. Musk initially threatened to decommission the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, the vital link to the International Space Station (ISS), after Trump hinted at cutting government funding to Musk’s companies.

The fiery exchange began on Thursday with Musk’s declaration on X (formerly Twitter) that he would “begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately.” This drastic move was a direct response to Trump’s perceived threat.

However, the situation took a swift turn just hours later. Responding to a user’s suggestion that both parties “cool off,” Musk conceded. In a brief but significant message, he declared, “Good advice. Ok, we won’t decommission Dragon.” This effectively ends, at least for now, the uncertainty surrounding the continued use of the Dragon spacecraft for vital ISS missions.

The episode highlights the volatile nature of the relationship between powerful figures in the tech and political worlds, and underscores the critical role the Dragon spacecraft plays in space exploration.
