Qatar’s Gift: Transforming a 747 into the Next Air Force One for Under $400 Million

Remember President Trump’s announcement in May? The U.S. received the Boeing 747 as a gift from Qatar. This temporary Air Force One will serve until Boeing delivers brand new planes, including the next official Air Force One. The Department of Defense formally accepted the aircraft in May, ensuring all necessary security and functional requirements are met for presidential transport.

A Pentagon spokesperson emphasized the commitment to implementing stringent security measures and fulfilling the mission-critical requirements for an aircraft carrying the President of the United States.
