Reform UK Deploys ‘DOGE’ Team to Tackle Council Waste

Reform UK is launching its own version of a government efficiency unit, dubbed “DOGE,” to investigate wasteful spending in local councils. Inspired by a similar initiative in the US, this team of experts will be the first of its kind in the UK.

The unit, comprising software engineers, data analysts, and forensic auditors, will begin its work with an examination of Kent County Council, starting this Monday. Their mission is to identify and expose areas of unnecessary expenditure.

The US-based DOGE, launched during the Trump administration, had involvement from Elon Musk, although he has since departed from the project. Reform UK’s team will be led by a prominent, yet-to-be-named, tech entrepreneur with a proven track record in data analytics and corporate turnarounds. This individual’s expertise promises a thorough and insightful analysis of council finances.

Reform UK hopes this initiative will highlight significant cost-saving opportunities within local authorities and promote greater financial accountability.
