Spectrum Investigates Vandalism After Major LA & Ventura Internet Outage

A significant internet, cable, and phone outage impacting thousands in Los Angeles and Ventura counties on June 15th has been attributed to suspected criminal vandalism by Spectrum, the affected service provider.

According to Spectrum spokeswoman Pamela Hoeft, the company’s optic lines were deliberately severed. The incident prompted an immediate investigation in collaboration with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). “The investigation is ongoing,” Hoeft stated in a Monday interview. “We’re working with LAPD on that.”

While service was largely restored by June 16th, a small number of customers continued to experience disruptions. The scale of the outage was initially evident on DownDetector.com, a website monitoring utility service disruptions, where over 25,000 users reported issues on Sunday.

Spectrum is actively working to resolve the remaining service issues and fully cooperate with law enforcement in their investigation of this act of vandalism.
