The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is launching an investigation into incidents where several Australian journalists were injured or affected by riot control measures during recent violent protests in Los Angeles. The demonstrations were sparked by opposition to U.S. immigration enforcement policies.

The spotlight initially fell on Lauren Tomasi, Nine News’ U.S. correspondent, after a video surfaced showing her being hit by a rubber bullet fired by riot police. This incident quickly grabbed headlines.

Adding to the growing concern, Lauren Day, a U.S. correspondent for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), reported on June 10th that she and her team were impacted by tear gas deployed during the unrest.

Further escalating the situation, an ABC cameraman was struck in the chest by a non-lethal projectile while filming the volatile demonstrations. Fortunately, he escaped serious injury.

The LAPD’s investigation into these incidents is ongoing, raising questions about the use of crowd control measures and the safety of journalists covering such events.
