BC Premier Eby: No Pipeline Block, But No Money or Proponent for Smith’s North Coast Project

British Columbia Premier David Eby recently clarified his stance on Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s proposed pipeline to BC’s northern coast. While dismissing claims of obstruction, Eby emphasized the project’s current lack of key components: a proponent and funding.

During a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, following a 10-day Asian trade mission, Eby stated, “I’m not the one who stands between Premier Smith and a pipeline to the coast. There’s no proponent, there’s no money, there’s no project right now.”

Eby’s position is clear: BC will consider the pipeline proposal only once a viable proponent steps forward and secures the necessary funding. He added that if Smith can successfully secure these elements, “B.C. will certainly cross that bridge.”

The Premier also highlighted the numerous alternative avenues for collaboration between BC and Alberta, suggesting a focus on other projects that could foster western Canadian prosperity.
