Moscow & St. Petersburg Airports Temporarily Shut Down After Drone Attacks

A wave of Ukrainian drone attacks triggered temporary chaos in Russian airspace on June 10th, leading to the brief grounding of flights in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The early morning assault prompted immediate action from Russian authorities.

Russia’s civil aviation authority confirmed the temporary suspension of civilian flights at Moscow’s four major airports and St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport. The swift response followed reports of numerous drones targeting Russian territory.

The disruption wasn’t limited to these two major hubs. According to state-run TASS news agency, temporary flight restrictions were also implemented in eight other Russian cities. The extent of the impact on air travel across the country remains to be seen.

Russia’s defense ministry claimed responsibility for successfully neutralizing the threat, stating in a TASS-cited statement that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed over 100 Ukrainian drones launched overnight. The accuracy and full extent of these claims remain under scrutiny.

This incident marks yet another escalation in the ongoing conflict and highlights the increasingly volatile situation in the region. The impact on civilian air travel, both immediate and long-term, remains a key concern.
