Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s newly formed Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has suffered an early setback. Just days before its inaugural meeting, one of its eight appointed members, Dr. Michael Ross, has withdrawn from his position.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed Dr. Ross’s resignation on June 24th, citing the financial holdings review required of all committee members. An HHS spokesperson stated that Dr. Ross’s decision came during this mandatory review process, emphasizing the significant personal sacrifices involved in serving on the ACIP.
While the spokesperson expressed appreciation for Dr. Ross’s participation in the rigorous review process, his withdrawal leaves a vacancy on the committee, which was assembled after Kennedy Jr. dismissed all 17 previous members. The impact of this departure on the committee’s work remains to be seen.
The controversy surrounding the panel’s formation continues to unfold, highlighting the ongoing debate and scrutiny surrounding vaccine policy.
